George Takei turns 71 today. Hope you have a good one, George!
I was contacted today with a request to link to Starbase Adran, and after checking out their truly impressive collection of material I decided I had to. They’ve thus been added to the links page, and I encourage you to check ‘em out.
Also updated “about this site” as the ages listed were both a year off. More news as it comes in.
Spotted this article in my daily RSS grab: Group Renames Asteroid for George Takei. (Cooler version of the same headline: First Gay Asteroid.)
Site changes today:
1) Added a gallery of screencaps from Star Trek New Voyages “World Enough And Time”
2) Modified images in movie galleries, removing or reducing the “black bars” above and below the images
3) Modified site structure — may break links to galleries or specific pictures.
4) Added a gallery of John Lim as young Sulu in Star Trek New Voyages “World Enough And Time” because, while this is strictly speaking a site about George Takei, Lim’s an awesome Sulu.
Star Trek New Voyages “World Enough and Time” is now available for download. Initially, it was available only as a stream and the server was rapidly overloaded, but the torrent is now up. Yay!
On AfterElton.com there’s a lovely blog post about GT’s appearance at the HRC’s SF Gala, where he received the HRC Equality Award:
Link from GT.com: GT’s up for the SyFy Genre Awards’ “Best Special Guest (Television)” award for his role on Heroes. Personally, I’d've chosen a different episode, but that’s just me.
Surprise! Bet you weren’t expecting an upgrade. The fact is, my old method of updating the site was so complicated that I wasn’t updated, so I decided to get fancy and put in a CMS. This means, if you’re watching the site via RSS, you’re going to want to change the feed URL in your RSS reader to http://twobar.com/sulu/?feed=rss2. And, of course, if you’ve got a specific page bookmarked, you’ll need to update the bookmark. This site is in beta, which means that I’ve fixed everything I found that was broken, but there may be things I haven’t found yet — if you spot a problem, let me know.
Well, with that over, to news, which is sort of old because I was doing other things: Jake kindly wrote to tell me that George Takei was the editors’ choice over at AOL Television for , as he puts it, “the coolest guest star to appear on a television” in the 2006-2007 television season. Meanwhile, I got confirmation that both George Takei and Leonard Nimoy will be at the HRC’s San Francisco Gala in July.
This is a difficult update to make. According to GT.com, George Takei and Wil Wheaton will be co-hosting an event for Fanlib.com, which is a rather uncool place, actually. I therefore am uncomfortable linking to more information; if you want to know about it, go through George’s site.
Also, I have edited the links page to remove the George Takei community on Livejournal, as I no longer believe that Livejournal is a suitable site for fannish activities. In short, this update is pure politics. My apologies.
I received an email message today saying that George will be at San Francisco Pride this year. Wes says:
“This year Google is one of the sponsors of the SF Pride event in June, and I wanted to give you a heads up that George will be riding on our float with us as well as speaking on the main stage at city hall.”
So, SF-area people who are going to Pride, keep your eyes peeled for signs of Takei on the Google float. Thanks, Wes!
